The seafood’s freshness is impeccable, as you can see from the squid in lime and herbs—naturally sweet and accompanied with tangy lime sauce. While the grilled river big head prawns served with seafood sauce look like every other version of this simple barbeque dish, they too dazzle the palate. It’s actually not that easy getting the prawns cooked with smoky char-grilled notes while still keeping the flesh tender and juicy. Moreover, every single prawn we ordered came with abundant amounts of fat in the head.  The deep-fried seabass in fish sauce is so very recommended. Tom Yum Goong with heavy red broth is totally intense and a must dish to order. Mango and sticky rice for dessert.

Ob Aroi’s consistency and reasonable prices warrant the trek to its far-flung location from the city center but fortunately the SC Park Hotel that we stayed in is just around the corner.

Sarawakian Food – Miri Town

I met a group of local Chinese teenagers from Miri in Mulu recently when we were all based in Camp 5 for our climb to see the Pinnacles. Unfortunately their group and our group were not allowed to make the climb by the park rangers due to bad weather. Since they were all from Miri I asked them what is good to eat there and they deliberated among themselves and came up with 2 eating spots. Shun Fong Cafe for the Kolo Mee and  Thien Sin Prawn Mee for the Big Head Prawn Noodles.

Shun Fong is famous for their Kolo Mee and this Cafe is just a walking distance directly facing  opposite the airport across the road.

Thien Sin Prawn Mee

This place is famous for  their Big Head Prawns and is served with noodles in prawn broth.

Yet again we were disappointed as both of this places were closed when we were there before our flight back to Kuala Lumpur.

One fine day we shall be back to eat in this two places.

From the airport driving towards the town just a few minutes drive you will see a row of shop houses on your left just before the Police HQ building facing the main road.
